Peanuts Charlie Brown Snoopy

The beloved children's cartoon "The Peanuts" will release in theaters today, just in time for the holidays.

I'm pumped to see the peanut gang glide on ice with Snoopy, sing holiday cheer, and bring to life the most important morals in society. I'm not so sure about the director's decision to make this film computer-generated considering that the classics were hand-drawn, but perhaps this will be the best film yet.

Most of us are familiar with the main characters: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Peppermint Patty, Schroeder, etc., and have a favorite one. But have you ever wondered why you like a particular character? Is it because your favorite character is just like you?

Using my expertise in personality psychology, I will help you explore which "Peanuts" character matches your personality best. First, I should let you know that there are several different personality theories in existence. The one that I used to analyze the "Peanuts" characters comes from a theory known as the Enneagram of Personality (yeah…that's a mouthful). Secondly, there are around 22 Peanut characters but I had to narrow this discussion down to nine characters based on the theory. So, if you don't find one of the characters listed below that matches your personality, feel free to comment below and I'll figure out a way to find the character that matches your personality.

Read the italicized questions below. If you answer "yes" to a majority of them you may match the Peanut character listed below. Without further ado, here are the Peanuts and their personalities.

The Reformer

Are you striving for perfection and looking for ways to improve a situation? Do you strive for goodness and integrity, but have tendencies to be hypercritical of others? Are you easily angered? If so…

Peanuts-Lucy

You're Lucy!

You're Lucy.

Lucy was known for offering psychological assistance to Charlie Brown when he was upset, but she also criticized his inability to complete tasks successfully and fit the norm. Lucy's strength was through leadership because she always had an idea of what needed to be done. However, she'd become so frustrated that some characters tended to ignore her instruction.

The Helper

Does it seem as though you are always offering assistance to someone else? Do you tend to put your friend's needs in front of your own? Are you easily excited by flattery and the idea of love? Would others describe you as humble? If so….

Peanuts-Linus

You're Linus!

You're Linus.

Linus was Charlie Brown's best human friend. This was not because Linus wore the coolest clothes are was considered popular, but Linus sacrificed his time to help Charlie get out of a funk. Linus's greatest strength was that he wise beyond his years and understood the importance of kindness. Although Linus was very caring, I always wondered if Sally's unrequited love for him may have fed into his ego a bit.

The Achiever

Are you an overachiever and trying to balance all of life's responsibilities? Do you tend to push yourself to always be the best? Do you offer truthfulness and authenticity to everyone you come across? Perhaps, at times, you become a bit vain? If so…

Peanuts-Schroeder

You're Schroeder!

You're Schroeder.

It may come as no surprise to you that Schroeder fits the mold for being an overachiever. In every movie he is found hunched over a piano and diligently playing for no particular audience (I'm surprised he didn't end up with some spinal disorder). Even with Lucy tempting him to forget about the piano, he never gave in and would remain reticent. Did anyone else ever get the feeling that Schroeder thought he was better than everyone else? Maybe he was.

The Individualist

Do you consider yourself unique and individualistic? Is your imagination overactive? Do you aim for emotional balance and stability? If so….

Peanuts-Snoopy

You're Snoopy!

You're Snoopy.

Snoopy was a unique character in the Peanut collection. Not only was he a dog, but the creators made it possible for us to tap into his imagination as he pretended to be an airplane pilot or some other person. We also feel as though we know him well despite the fact that he doesn't have any speaking lines. Essentially, Snoopy did whatever Snoopy wanted to without the fear of judgment.

The Investigator

Are you an explorer? Is your goal to master a particular skill or acquire worldly understanding? Do you become frustrated if you feel helpless or incompetent? If so….

Peanuts-Woodstock

You're Woodstock!

You're Woodstock.

Woodstock made some minor appearance in the Peanut films, but it was clear that he joined Snoopy on his greatest adventures. He seemed to have interests in almost everything including Christmas decorating competitions and painting landscapes. A weakness in Woodstock is his inability to fly with coordination. He is always crashing into things. However, he still tries to fly so that he can become better at it.

The Loyalist

Do people commonly refer to you as loyal? Do you regularly provide support or guidance to your friends? Is having faith in something important to you? Do you worry about being indecisive or hate that you doubt yourself sometimes? If so….

Peanuts-Marcie

You're Marcie!

You're Marcie.

Marcie was Peppermint Patty's right-hand woman. She offered advice, organized phone calls, and talked her through her troubles. Her loyalty to Patty was unwavering. The cornerstone to that friendship was Marcie's ability to be there for her friend.

The Enthusiast

Are you passionate? Do you offer words of wisdom, even when it is not needed? Is it your mission to be satisfied and content? Do you tend to think the grass is greener on the other side? If so…

Peanuts-Peppermint-Patty

You're Peppermint Patty!

You're Peppermint Patty.

Peppermint Patty, also known as "Pat," was the tomboy that enjoyed being around her friends and had contagious energy. She was found helping in the school plays or participating on the baseball field. Pat constantly questioned herself because she wanted a situation to be perfect.

The Challenger

Do you tend to challenge other people's points of view? Do you seek the truth in situations? Do you consider yourself self-sufficient? Do you easily fall in love? If so…

Peanuts-Sally

You're Sally!

You're Sally.

Sally, the little sister of Charlie Brown, was inquisitive, bright, and loving. She would try to find ways to improve her lifestyle as demonstrated in her letters to Santa Claus. She also had a major crush on Linus and followed him around. No one could doubt that Sally was independent and one of a kind.

The Peacemaker

Do you long to find a true love? Do you yearn for harmony and avoid conflicts? Are you caught daydreaming often? Do people consider you to be a peacemaker? If so…

Peanuts-Charlie-Brown

You're Charlie Brown!

You're Charlie Brown.

Charlie Brown was trying to figure out life. He knew that there was more to it then what met the eye, but he needed reassurance from others that life wasn't as pessimistic as he thought. He would avoid getting his feelings hurt by Lucy or the little red-headed girl. His dreams were simple and idealistic, but that's why we love Charlie Brown.
